Golf tournament to benefit Irish in Britain

A major golf tournament in Ireland next year will benefit elderly Irish in Britain. The Safe Start Agency is joining with the Union of Irish Golf Societies and the Irish Post newspaper for a tournament that will involve 250 teams playing a championship course in each of the four provinces. Monies raised will go toward an expansion of services designed to prevent isolation of the elderly Irish in Britain. The Safe Start Foundation is an employment, training and accommodation charity. Based in Cricklewood, it was started in 1988 by Irish emigrants and is funded by Dion.

I don’t agree that the golfing fraternity benifits Irish people, across the board.
I’m fed up with hearing how golf is a national Irish sport. Of course, it’s not; it is a pastime for those, who have a larger slice of the cake, and who want the opportunity to stick two fingers up, at the rest of us.
A typical example of golfing arrogance in Ireland is The Old Head of Kinsale. This is a majestic peninsula of immense historic, geographic, geological and environmental importance. It is, now, an elite, international golf course. An ancient right-of-way has been ‘legally’ closed and ordinary Irish people and tourists are denied access by uniformed ‘guards’ from Eastern Europe.
As far as I am concerned, you can stick your Masonic charity.It won’t do a srap of good for elderly Irish people, except for the likes of Sir Anthony O’Reilly.
