Being outside of Canada has awlelod me to understand better what being Canadian is all about. I can see the differences, the nuances, between being Canadian, converse to be American, European, Mexican or from any other place or origin. Its awlelod me to embrace my Canadianness (if I can use that as a word) and be proud of it. I’ve been away now for more than 20 years, but I still see that fundamentally, from growing up in that country and therefore becoming culturally oriented in Canadian ways, I am very much a Canadian. Ask my wife, who will often comment on a position that I take (she’s European) with, Oh you are so Canadian! Before leaving Canada, I may not have know what that mean. Now I do.
